Description
Derrumbes Durango Mezcal 200ML – Derrumbes’ Durango is produced in the remote village of Nombre de Dios in the northern Mexican state.
It is a varietal made exclusively of Durango’s endemic agave Durangensis. It represents yet another expression from the Derrumbes family distilled in unique wood and copper stills; however, this one has a neck for external condensation.
Maestro mezcalero Uriel Simental delivers this exciting balance of summer fruit, nuts, and dry minerality that finishes seamlessly with a beautiful light smokiness.
Tasting Notes:
- Aroma (out of the bottle): Cheese, overripe green vegetables, burnt caramelized sugar
- Aroma (after airing out): Vanilla, barnyard, funk, mango gone bad, other ripe spoiled fruits, burnt orange
- Smoke: None detected
- Viscosity and Mouthfeel: Nice viscosity and mouthfeel. Taste: Funky, barnyard flavors, hints of sweet and burnt notes
Derrumbes Durango Mezcal offers a lot of complexity and depth, with a funky and earthy profile balanced by some sweet and burnt notes. It’s also interesting that the aroma and flavor improved after the bottle had aired out, which could be an indication that this mezcal benefits from a bit of breathing time.
Overall, a unique and enjoyable expression from this producer.
