Description

der Hirt is sourced from a south-facing, red slate/sandstone vineyard called Valwiger Herrenberg. As he is bottling everything as “Landwein”, he is unable to indicate the vineyard site with such a wine, so Philip has created a persona, der Hirt or shepherd. This is, after all, the Herrenberg, or, hill of the shepherd. There are two parcels here that Philip worked (0.21 hectares combined), both terraced, einzelstck vineyards with ungrafted vines planted in 1945 – the year WWII ended..and this is the last wine they ever produced. Due to commuting distance and the inefficiency of working these ancient parcels (no machinery, closest road is 200meters and thus everything must be brought in on one’s back) after Lardot finished the 2021 harvest he relinquished his lease and in turn the parcels were pulled up. The Mosel history and tradition obliterated in a month’s time. Normally the “warmest” of his vineyards – in the 2021 vintage it is slender, cutting, a good dash of reduction and glorious depth. – vom Boden

The wine arrives the last week of April, 2025.
