To produce 5 Sentidos Sierra Negra, the maguey Sierra Negra plant is hand-mashed and fermented with spring water and tepehuaje bark in stone. This bark acts as a natural stabilizer for fermentation, which is necessary due to the cold temperatures at this altitude. The mezcal is then double distilled in clay pot stills, which creates a smooth and flavorful end product.

5 Sentidos Sierra Negra is a limited-edition mezcal, with each batch being unique and slightly varying in alcohol by volume (ABV). The first batch of this mezcal was released in the US in 2017, and only 181 bottles were produced.
