Description
Derrumbes Durango Mezcal
Derrumbes’ Durango is produced in the remote village of Nombre de Dios in the northern Mexican state.
It is a varietal made exclusively of Durango’s endemic agave Durangensis. It represents yet another expression from the Derrumbes family distilled in unique wood and copper stills; however, this one has a neck for external condensation.
Maestro mezcalero Uriel Simental delivers this exciting balance of summer fruit, nuts, and dry minerality that finishes seamlessly with a beautiful light smokiness.
Tasting Notes
- Aroma (out of the bottle): Cheese, overripe green vegetables, burnt caramelized sugar
- Aroma (after airing out): Vanilla, barnyard, funk, mango gone bad, other ripe spoiled fruits, burnt orange
- Smoke: None detected
- Viscosity and Mouthfeel: Nice viscosity and mouthfeel
- Taste: Funky, barnyard flavors, hints of sweet and burnt notes
Derrumbes Durango Mezcal offers a lot of complexity and depth, with a funky and earthy profile balanced by some sweet and burnt notes. Interestingly, the aroma and flavor improved after the bottle aired out, which could indicate that this mezcal benefits from a bit of breathing time.
Overall, it is a unique and enjoyable expression from this producer.
