Description
Koch El Angustifolia Karwinskii Ensamble Mezcal
A masterful collaboration from Rio de Ejutla, Oaxaca, where Maestro Mezcalero Adrian Bautista crafts this distinctive ensamble from a harmonious blend of Agave angustifolia and Agave karwinskii. The production process honors traditional methods: agaves are ground by tahona, then fermented in open-air cypress vats using pure river water, before being distilled in a copper refrescadera still.
Tasting Notes
- At 47% ABV, this mezcal opens with bright aromatics of fresh lemongrass and invigorating mint, developing intriguing leather notes as it breathes.
- The palate offers a refreshing experience perfect for warm weather sippingsweet agave notes intertwine with delicate wood smoke, while a crisp mint character arrives swiftly before gracefully fading, leaving lingering notes of sweetness and subtle smoke.
This ensamble is part of Koch’s broader mission to preserve and promote authentic mezcal culture, a journey that began in 2009 when Carlos Moreno revived his family’s century-old mezcal tradition. Today, their collective embraces over 15 communities and 50 producing families, each contributing to the rich tapestry of Oaxacan mezcal heritage.
