Fifteen years ago, David Vitale, founder of the Starward distillery, made a pioneering and risky decision that would change the identity of his whiskies forever. Instead of taking the traditional route of maturing in bourbon casks, he made a conscious decision to mature his distillates in red wine casks from the Melbourne region. Today, Starward is known worldwide and is considered a leader in the production of whisky finished in red wine casks.

But the intriguing question remains: What would have happened if Vitale had taken the traditional path back then? Whisky lovers can now answer this question for themselves, because with Starward Bourbon Casks #2, the distillery is offering a single malt that has been matured exclusively in bourbon barrels for five years. This special edition builds on the success of the first edition from 2018, which sold out quickly.
